Rural Roots

Layh & Associates was established in Langenburg, Saskatchewan in 1994 after Don Layh and his family relocated from Saskatoon to Don’s family farm on the Assiniboine Valley west of Russell, Manitoba. The historic house built by Mr. McManus in 1946, and home to the Welke family for forty years, provided a comfortable, professional setting for the Saskatchewan anchor of the law firm.
In 2010, Layh & Associates created a Manitoba office in Russell, Manitoba in the newly renovated A.G. Smellie Block, a cornerstone of the commercial centre of Russell for over a century. Tin ceilings, hardwood floors and 14 foot walls provide a dramatic setting for a rural law firm, with a province-wide clientele.
Our rural location adjacent to the parkland fringe reflects our connection to the rural economy of the prairies, including agriculture, potash mining and small businesses and a sense of kinship with our clients who primarily live and conduct business in rural communities throughout the prairies.
Improvements in communication technology have permitted Layh & Associates to serve commercial clients throughout the Canadian prairies. Our locations provide many economic and practical advantages in the practice of law that allow us to better serve our commercial clients in a timely, efficient and cost-effective manner.
The lawyers and staff at Layh & Associates have chosen to live and work in the region for both the quality of legal practice and the quality of life it provides.
